Well, I've been trying to drift away from the Dutch a bit, since while my Dutch are pretty good, a) I have trouble vs. a few more aggressive age 2 civs, and b) I need a civ that I can play for team games, and my Dutch for team games pretty much sucks. Spain is a really appealing civ to me, because they're really really versatile, but, let's face it, they're a lower tier civ in the current patch with the FP. I've had some success making the brits work, but like the Dutch, they have a defensive playstyle, and I'd like to get better at rushing and being aggressive with my playstyle, as I haven't rushed in 1v1's in probably a few months (no exaggeration).


It's not so much that I can't micro their units or anything like that, I'm just having trouble getting their eco started off well, since I'm so used to civs that have bonuses that allow them to boom very fast (Dutch, Brits). Once I hit age 2, I feel like it's more of a case of 'make their eco worse than mine' rather than 'make my eco good,' even though it should be somewhat equal between the two.


I can FF fine with them, since that's the kind of strat I'm good at, so if any of you have some BO's or basic outlines for an age 2 rush or spam (for team games), or maybe just some tips in general, I'd appreciate them; spain have been giving me some trouble.

You can still pull off an aggressive rod rush with a good eco.  What works for me is shipping 300 wood as the second shipment, building a market in transition and then shipping the 9 vills after the 13 rods.

I did a few experiments with a basic rodelero rush and it's pretty easy to get 30-32 rods at your forward base by 7:00 with 24 villagers, and all 3 first-tier market upgrades. 


They cost 65 food and 35 gold - you get 100 gold to start and 200 from aging so that's a good head start. After aging up with 15 villagers, I split them about 12 wood/3 food in order to get a market/house/barracks up. 


Send 2 FB vills up and put them on wood. Get all 3 market upgrades ASAP, but prioritize getting a barracks up once you age. Send the age-up tower forward and set the shipment delivery point to that. Split vills at a ratio of about 2.5 food: 1 wood: 1 gold and adjust as necessary. The cards I shipped were 700 food (for a burst of villagers and built rods) then 6 rods x2 to the forward tower. 


I had 32 by 7:09 which is solid for most team games.
