Okay, this is a pretty standard dual rax xbow/pike rush, just thought I'd put up the BO: Cards Needed: 3 CDB 700 Wood Cards Recommended: 5 CDB 4 CDB 8 xbow 700 gold AGE 1 1. Standard 14 (or thirteen, if speed is needed) cdb age up - collect all food crates, mash V, collect one wood crate, build a house, send 3 cdb, stop at 13/14 pop, age using quartermaster. TRANSITION Move 5 cdb to wood, 2-3 at a forward location. Back at base, build a market, research first food and wood techs. Queue up 1-2 villes, waypoint to wood. Build another house, if the wood is available. AGE 2 Immediately collect the 400 wood, and build two barracks with your forward cdb (they should be quite close to your enemy's base). Immediately start making xbows at the first rax, and pikes at the second. The first cards should be 700 wood, which is put into 2 houses and more pikes/xbows. Most people use more xbows that pikes, which is fine, but I find that an even distribution of both is the best, especially since the 8 xbow card brings the balance back in favour of pikes. I'd attack when you have 10 of each type of troop. Remember, as with any strat, KEEP VILLAGER PRODUCTION CONSTANT! I have lost many a game with this strat because my initial attack did not wipe them out, and my eco was not strong enough to maintain a decent army at my FB. While attacking, keep pumping units into the enemy base; the more the better! This strat will work against most FF's or nonagressive (meaning later than 6 minute) rushes, especially since cdb allow for the garrison-fire defense at your TC even if your army is away. NEVER use this against any semblence of a turtle; 2 outposts will MURDER your troops if they have xbows. When attacking any building with your pikes, remember cover mode. It's quite useful. Thanks for your input and good luck, Magnificent

High guys, Eddi asked me to post my version of the French xbow spam so here we go: Discovery: • get a market. Do this always! Early hunting dogs pays off so quickly! Just try to get some gold or wood treasures. You don't want to be spending the extra res without any treasures. If you start with 200 wood, just chop 50 wood, and get 50 gold. If you start with 100 gold, you should extra gold, so you can buy 100 wood for 125 gold (this is more efficient in terms of VS). Make sure you get exactly the amount of res you need for hunting dogs, don't get more wood/gold than you need! • after getting hunting dogs normal age up. 13/14 vills. Transition: • get wood cutting upgrade. put 3 on wood, rest on food. move to vills forward • TC waypoint to food Colonial: • send 700 wood, build 2 raxes with age up wood. Start queueing xbows/pikes, whichever you think you'll need more. Once you have 10 units start harassing, don't just let them sit there doing nothing. • send 600 wood next, followed by 8 xbows. • once the 600 wood arrives you should split your vills equally on food/wood (maybe a bit more on food) The card order 700 wood/600 wood/ 8 xbows will allow you to have a huge army at the 6:30-7 min mark, so this is when you really should be pushing hard. How to carry on: • you can send economic theory next for the extra eco boost. 3 huss is a good card too if you think you'll need it (this works well vs archer civs as xbows need micro vs longbows) • put some vills on gold and get the second tier upgrades • send 700 gold and age up (have the xbows -> skirms change card in your deck! With 40+ skirms it's really worth it) Pros: • good eco, nice military mass, solid combo Cons: • hard to micro, not great vs hussar harassment as pikes are simply too slow.

^ A few things to add. Card order should be 3 CDB/700 Wood/600 Wood/ 8 Xbows OR 4 CDB. 8 Xbows if you need the units and you are being either pushed back or feel that it will serve you better, and 4 CDB if you feel you have the advantage. 4 CDB allows you to triple rax very shortly, get 2nd market ups, go bow/cav (strange but highly effective combo), or allows you to jump to age 3 with a stronger eco. In some situations I find it to be more effective than 700 gold, as I'm getting to age 3 with a much stronger economy, yet slower. So there is always a trade off.

Hm, where is your housing coming from? When I did this (back in the olden days when I played civs other than the Dutch :p), I put 5 or so guys on wood during the transition, got two houses, sent two forward, then built 2 raxes with the fwd villes, and my first shipment was 700 wood. I'd put new villes to wood, and just spam the hell outta xbows. However, I'd add that if you aren't forwarding, I'd make only one rax; cdb are enough to make up for it if you are defending, especially with the great coat and blunderbuss upgrades. Good write up though, and I approve of your spelling of 'Hi'

the french double rax bow/pike rush seems extremely effective. what would be a rough estimate of military pop around 7, 8, 9 minute marks? and the skirm switch card... doesn't seem to be as effective as the musk switch card russia has, but nonetheless is cost effective and deadly!

I'm actually not sure if the russian skirmishers are better than regular skirmishers. Never really compared the two. The russian card seems to be more effective just because of raw quantity. The card converts strelets though, not musks. I think because of this it is more cost effective, as you can typically amass more strelets than crossbows (even with french dual rax).

13 vill age up with market and hunting dogs in discovery and chopping upgrade while aging(for those having trouble with india 10/10 this is death to them although 8 xbow as first shipment makes it much easier) 700 wood, 600 wood, 8xbow: transition allocation...4 on food rest on wood till u have about 375 to 400 wood then all but 2 on food- i like to build barracks with one vill each so they build at same. once the 600 wood comes u will have to split your vills approx 45% food 55% wood 10 @ 5:10 20@ 5:45 30@6:20 40@6:45 45ish @7:30 55ish@8:15 approx same allocation really but split vills food/wood soon after 700 wood comes- cant mass near as many after 7 minutes 700 wood, 8xbow 10@5:10 20@5:45 30@6:20 38@6:30 Hope that answers your question echo

for the next post in my recent flood of posts on vclan.net, i would like to post what i have been doing, to great effect, for my musk/huss start. i would like some of your opinions, since this is not a BO i saw on a website or anything, just something i came up with. French Musk/Huss Only for maps where a market is able to be built in age 1 (or very close). E.g., 300/200 F + 200 W start, 300/200 F + 100 W + 100 G start, or 400/300 F + 100 W start + at least 80 W in treasures (cut 20 or less). Age 1: standard 14 cdb age up, herd at least 1, preferably 2 hunts early on. Age 1 market, get early hunting dogs if plausible. Age with quartermaster. Transition: 7 cdb on wood, 3 on gold, 4 on food. Get hunting dogs (if not already) and placer mines, build a house, then redistribute cdb 5 gold, 11 food. Queue a cdb, waypoint to food. Age 2: Collect 400 wood ASAP with 3 cdb, build stable + rax; stable with 2 cdb ASAP, then rax with 3 crate cdbs as soon as done. Queue a huss and a musk, ship 700 wood. try to finish batches, huss get priority. Harass at first. 700 wood = steel traps + houses (+ TP?). rest is adaptation.
